Becca is 6 months old now, and is a busy little girl. She can get all over the room by rolling, and has started pushing up on her toes (like as if she were going to do a bear walk). She’s been sitting independently for a few weeks, and has great posture. 2 weeks ago, we started having her sit in the grocery store cart, and on Friday she sat up for the whole trip without leaning back against the cart. It’s funny – Katie has been pretty great about sharing with her sister, but she draws the line at the cart. I took them to the store yesterday, and Katie specifically said she wanted to ride in the cart “NOT BECCA.”

Yesterday, we introduced Becca to oatmeal. She seemed to really like it, which is such a sharp contrast to Katie’s reaction to food.

Since the last post here on the main blog page, pictures were added to the Spring album and a Summer album was created. Links are in the sidebar.

Katie is becoming a Big Kid. She frequently tells us “I do it myself” and pushes off help. Recent things she wants to do herself include buckling her Tripp Trapp chair, turning the water on/off, buckling her car seat chest strap, getting into her car seat. She is still insistent on picking out her own outfits and has recently changed from wanting ponytails to wanting braids.

She takes a dance class at daycare, and the recital was last month. Katie was the biggest ham before the show, while the other girls were all acting shy or scared. But when it came time for the performance, Katie was too scared to go onto the stage. They had done a dress rehearsal to get the kids used to the costumes, but it was at daycare. Katie probably would’ve had an easier time if she had seen the stage before. Maybe next time!

Becca is doing great. She started at daycare 3 weeks ago and is adjusting well. She had great head control, and has starting trying to figure out how to scoot around on her playmat. She has found her hands and loves trying to fit them into her mouth. She talks and laughs all the time. Much like Katie was, Becca is a very sweet and happy baby. She weighs about 14 pounds now, and is somewhere between 24-25 inches. She’s much taller than Katie was, which explains why Becca has started to outgrow some of the clothes that Katie was still wearing at the same age.

Katie turned 3 on Tuesday. She had fun celebrating with her Groberg grandparents last weekend and her Vaughn grandparents this weekend. She really enjoyed opening presents, even if she wanted help getting the paper started. A new album has been started – see the 2011 picture link page for the album link. It’s just been started; pictures are still needing to be added.

As part of turning 3, Katie’s carseats were turned forward facing. This is a sad milestone for me, since rear facing is so much safer. She still had some room, so we could have kept her rear facing for a little bit longer … but we can’t fit 2 rear facing car seats in my car if anyone wants to drive the car. But we met my goal of 3 years, which is a really good length of time.

The last trip facing backward.

The first trip facing forward. She was really confused to see her seat facing front. Mike said she was a chatterbox on the way to daycare, though, so I guess it was a hit.

Becky had a milestone this week, too – she was back up to birth weight at 2 weeks!

She was very excited when the first sleigh pulled up:

Some of the sleighs were what you’d think of for a sleigh, but most were more like hayrides:

Katie loved riding “on” the horses, and amused many people with her happy squeals:
for during December 2010. This breaks the old December monthly
record of 35.3 inches set in 2000.

We did not get a picture with Santa this year. I took Katie to see him, and she was really excited while standing in line.

But once it was our turn, she freaked out and wouldn’t go near him. I didn’t want another crying picture like last year, but she wouldn’t even get close enough for one anyway. I think the problem is that our mall Santa doesn’t wear the traditional red/white outfit that she was expecting. Maybe next year.

Katie really enjoyed Christmas this year. She understood presents, and was very excited to open them. She did insist on stopping unwrapping frequently to throw away the paper. I think she stopped to browse each book she got; she probably would’ve stopped to play with/investigate some of the toys had they not been in boxes.

More pictures in the picasa album.
