Trip out West
By mg1278 | July 25, 2010
At the beginning of the month, Katie took her first plane trip and visited 4 states.
She did really well on the plane rides (except for the 3rd flight, where she was over-tired). She loved taking off and landing, and squealed with delight. We flew with a car seat (a lighter weight seat than the Britax models we have installed in the cars – those suckers are heavy and would have been a pain to drag through airports), and I think that really helped because she’s used to riding in a seat. Sucked for the people in front of her because they couldn’t recline their seats, but that’s probably better than having her kick the seat.
She also did pretty well with all the new people. She got a little shy at times, but was overall pretty good. She was fascinated with my cousin Lisa’s new baby Morgan and fell in love with my cousin Danielle’s daughter Ady. Katie kept trying to hug Ady, and I think tried to pick her up at one point.
We did get to spend a few hours in Yellowstone National Park, so Katie got to see Old Faithful. We also visited grizzly bears and wolves at the Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Center.
We finished up the trip with a brief stop back in Farr West to see my grandparents again, and went to dinner. That ended the good part of the trip. The next 24 hours were a pain, first with a hotel room that wasn’t really cleaned so we had to get a new one. And then a big snafu with the airline canceling our flight to MSP and trying to reroute us all over the US.

Mike went to mow today, and found baby rabbits:

Katie learned to take her own picture:
Katie has a new baby:

I was at Mall of America this week, and stopped in at the American Girl store. I sent Mike a message afterwards saying I’d used restraint and hadn’t bought a doll for Katie. He then said it would be okay for her to have a nicer baby doll, so I went back and picked out a Bitty Baby Twin. (The website only lets you buy the twins in sets, but the store sold them separately). She loved it, and has taken it to bed with her each night.

Even when it’s smaller, Molly still knows to run away from a vacuum.

Video and Santa
By mg1278 | December 13, 2009
Took Molly and Katie outside after the blizzard. Katie did not initially like it, but cheered up once I started making Molly run through the snow drifts.
I took Katie to see Santa today, and it did not go so well:

Blizzard
By mg1278 | December 9, 2009
The big story of the day is that “After a snowstorm dumped 12 to 16 inches of snow on southeastern Minnesota on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, winds of 20 to 40 mph will whip it up and create white-out conditions.”
Poor Molly made it about halfway down the deck steps before she couldn’t break through the snow anymore.

She tried several times but couldn’t get any farther. I tried to convince her it would be OK to pee on the deck, but she knew that was wrong. So we had to go to the front yard, where the wind had blown all the snow away.

Mike cleared the driveway this morning before the plow went by. After the plow came, the snow was almost knee-height. Good thing we have the snow blower!

In non-snow news, we got the tree up this week and Katie is fascinated by it.
